A friend of mine emailed me this morning about Sally Ride, the USA's first female in space. He said:
It turns out that Jimmy Sizemore is really Sally Ride. At Swarthmore College she played golf, field hockey, and was the Eastern Intercollegiate Women's Tennis Singles champion. She transferred to Stanford and was #1 on Stanford's tennis team and later dabbled in professional tennis. She was a PhD in physics and was an astrophysicist, and of course an astronaut. If you wonder what that is about you can read my first book: Be Sincere Even When You Don't Mean It, featuring Jimmy Sizemore. I'm thinking of writing a sequel: Jimmy Sizemore Goes to Mars.

Do we have inflation?6/16/2023 The other day my wife and I went to Torrington to buy horse supplies at the feed store. Right down the street was Carvel, so we stopped for an ice cream. Both of us ordered a small vanilla cone, that's it. I had a ten dollar bill in my hand and absentmindedly handed it to the person at the counter. She said "Sir--it's $12" Twelve dollars to two little ice cream cones! I looked the the guy in front of me who had ordered two large and one small milk shakes. 27 bucks! Am I wrong to be a bit surprised?
BTW -This was Torrington, CT, not Martha's Vineyard.

Redhead with Green Eyes6/12/2023 I've been reading and listening to thrillers and mysteries for inspiration. In my real life experience most people have brown eyes, then followed by blue-eyed people. But in thrillers an inordinate percentage of people have green or grey eyes. Especially featured are redheaded femme fatales with green eyes. A lot of morally challenged guys in mysteries have grey eyes.
I can't remember the last time I saw a person with green or grey eyes. Maybe I should hang around with more dangerous people.

Artificial Intelligence6/8/2023 It's here to stay-AI is changing the way people are going to operate, especially writers. Unethical people are already flooding Amazon and other sites with books that were written by AI, but signed by the people who merely pushed a few buttons.
But AI is a very powerful research tool, and I use it as my research assistant. I use ChatGPT, and interestingly, Chat can give me answers to conversational questions I ask. But sometimes the answers are wrong! Chat is best for outlining areas to seek further exploration. We'll talk more about it in the future. |
